This is a very nice quality, all solid mahogany tenor electro ukulele, the Kala KA-SMHTE-C. It combines the all solid tonewood construction with very nice looks and a slotted headstock. The result is very impressive, with the solid wood giving a rich tone with plenty of depth, and the headstock making the balance of the ukulele feel pleasant, and easy to play. Add into the mix some tortoiseshell style binding, black and white soundhole decoration and an inlaid gold Kala logo and you've got a great blend of specification, looks and sound performance.

The Kala KA-SMHTE-C tenor electro ukulele has a 17 inch scale, with 19 nickel silver frets that are well dressed, laid into a neat, smooth rosewood fingerboard. The neck is mahogany, it has a nubone nut and sadle and is fitted with lovely, smooth geared tuners and Aquila strings. The body length is 26 and 3/8 inches, of which 11 and 3/4 inches is the body length. The Kala KA-SMHTE-C has an arched back, giving a variable body depth up to 3 and 1/4 inches, and the nut width is 1 and 3/8". The body is shape is relatively standard and you'll have no problem finding bags and cases to fit, although none is included.

The Kala KA-SMHTE-C has an active Shadow pickup, with tone and volume controls which works well through an amp (well..... it performs well, it wouldn't be much of a pickup if it didn't work through an amp!). And the jack input is placed centrally, allowing you to comfortable attach a strap.

In summary, this Kala tenor electro is a really good all-rounder. It isn't as loud as Kala's mango tenors (although the volume is good), or as warm as the Kala KA-ASAC-T (although the tone is warm), or as bright as the KA-FMT (although the treble notes strand out nice and crisp)- but combines lots of what is good about these ukes into one well rounded tenor electro ukulele, with good looks, good spec and lovely tone. It is extremely well balanced tonally, with good depth, alongside singing trebles. It looks and feels nice, looks carefully made and has beautiful wood as well as nice decoration. And it feels good to play, slotted headstock and all, with a nicely balanced feel.
