This excellent interpretation of the guitalele from Kala is a very nice quality instrument, with a lovely, dreamy tone. Tuned A-D-G-C-E-A, the top four strings are like a regular tenor ukulele with a low G, while the addition of the low A and D not only gives more depth and warmth - but it means you can use guitar chord shapes also. You can see given that it is a tenor ukulele sized body, strung like a guitar in the key of C, just why they call it a guitlale. It literally is a guitar, and a ukulele at once.

This lovely KA-GL-KOA guitalele has a solid spruce top and laminate koa back and sides. The rosewood fingerboard is nicely finished, with 19 frets along a 30cm scale. The satin finish shows up the fine grain spruce top, while mahogany binding seperates the top and sides nicely. There is a koa capped slotted headstock and open grover tuners. The strings are Aquila, and certainly feel like super nylgut - with a more pearl colour and softer feel to the treble notes. This seems a good combination as the spruce top highlights the treble notes, while the supernylguts just take any shrill edge off the tone. There is plenty of depth too, with the tenor body and extra bass notes contrasting with the highs to give a gentle, balanced and super smooth tone.
