Piano set ups and regulationThis is the procedure followed by our piano workshop technicians. 1 Setting the hammer blow
Checking depth of touch
regulating let-off
Levelling keys 5 Setting back-checks
Setting the half-blow
Checking damper engagement is halfway down the key-drop. 8.Checking damper strength. (Some pianos require changing the damper spring strength. In order to make the damping very precise some manufacturers will use over-strength springs. This has a detrimental effect on the touch.) The weighting of the key (the touch), has 3 distinct progressions. a. Down-weight to lift hammer (48grams) b. Down-weight to lift damper c. Up-weight after blow completion. We would be content when those measurements are close to those on a concert Steinway grand! 9. Tuning and toning piano 10 Checking casework for squeaks and creaks. Published 14th May 2010 |
