Digital pianos are sometimes preferred because they are more convenient than a real piano and do not need tuning. What makes a good digital piano is the quality of the sound sample and the playing action - both of which need to be as close to the real thing as possible. After much comparative testing, we have found that the ranges from Kawai, price for price, offer superior performance on both these counts and we strongly recommend them. The sound is sampled from Kawai's hand-made, top-of-the-range EX 9’ concert grand, and whilst most manufacturers sample each note up to 4 times to give the different sounds related to the pianist’s touch, Kawai make 128 recordings which they term ‘Harmonic Imaging’ - giving a far superior overall sound quality.
